Legend of the girl who turned into stone

To those who wait and the ones who forgot about you

This story I will tell
the same I heard it in one night
by a local man,
sitting by the fire and drink hot wine with cinnamon
in a mountain shelter,
near Christmas.
“ Not too far from here,
in the place the mountain softens gradients,
you can see a small road,
and if you are curious to explore around,
or be there by accident,
will be surprised to see
two stones,
a girl who is sitting on a chair
with her hands holding together on the skirt
and a man,
who stands on the ground,
feet under him,
head resting on girl’s one knee.
This is the legend,
who came from eternal time,
nobody remember when took place.
The fame of this two statues
was growing in time
for a simple reason:
nature has not interfered with them.
Rain has not made carves into stones,
snow does not fall over,
they remain discovered even on hardest winters.
Near there is a tree,
in every spring spreading his flowers on stones,
the only season when you can see a trace of smiling
hanging on girl’s mouth.
Besides if you are willing to admire enough,
remark hope in every line,
confidence in her destiny,
acceptance,
with a little surprise as she wonders afterwards
why is still there after all the signs?
The statue of man inspires compasion,
cause suffering is graved deeply in the posture,
asking forgiveness.
Here is the story:
one day the man has left.
without a word and a hand touch.
He just woke up in the morning,
while the woman was asleep,
dressed up and gone to conquer the world.
As long time by,
season after season,
in woman’s heart has grew knowledge
of a longer missing,
even she had hopes for see him soon.
Legend says her love has remained unchanged,
therefore she created a habit
to wait for him near the road
in every morning and evening.
Just stand there in full silence
in the world of infinite stillness.
After the sun rise in the sky,
she come wraped up in hope for the newly day,
stays for two hours
and then leave, just to return
when sun is preparing for beauty sleep,
inch by inch
shadows of the night expose as apprentices
of royalty, the emperor - absolute darkness.
Only then she come inside the house.
After millions of ticking,
she forgot to leave after usual waiting,
seen her feet couldn’t lift from the ground,
and realized toes become hard as a stone.
She remained forever,
transforming bone by bone into a beautiful statue.
But one day,
after earth spinned around sun for
who knows how many times,
most beloved man showed.
Legend is not inlight us
if he found the truth he was looking for,
but when he saw her,
just put his body near and stood there as well,
embracing cold with warm heart.
Lord had mercy on him,
allow to become stone of deep regrets,
together with love light.
In the end,
legend tells they will be there
until earth will split in pieces.”
I dreamed that night
how they came to life,
walking by as they found the key
of love, truth and immortality.
